Catalog prototypes experiments and their results with the Exploration Map. Document all the experiments, the prototypes realized, and future prototypes that can be performed.
-
Create a visible map of prototypes realized.
Document what future prototypes can be created and experimented with.
Obtain a shared understanding of the progress so far.
Record the expected outcome of a prototype.

-
Step 1. Determine your axis, typically known or existing versus new or unexpected behaviors or functions.
Step 2. Collaborate with your team to place the prototypes realized throughout your map and discuss with your team each prototype and any patterns that are revealed based on your axis values. From here, you should be able to determine which future prototype the team should try next.
Step 3. Based on your prototype placements, collaborate with your team to list future prototypes or experiments that need to be made.
Step 4. Carry out your experiments for your future prototypes and determine where they fit on your exploration map.
Step 5. Document your findings, then discuss the prototypes created and reposition prototypes based on your conclusions, including user feedback.
-
The Map should depict the path to reach the desired prototype.
The Exploration Map can provide an overview a history to aid future prototypes and experiments.
Utilize pictures and visualizations to go along with each prototype.
Make the Exploration Map visible to all team members.
Use the Exploration Map to leave your comfort zone.
